MYP REFLECTION
Successful learners are able to think about their own learning and make personal plans about how to improve. Complete the oral reflection task below and arrange a meeting time with your teacher.
MYP G2 English End of Year Reflection, May 2013
TASK
Prepare a short, up to two minute, organized reflection in which you critically comment on the level
of English your have achieved prior to entering senior high school. Comment on the progress you
have made, your strengths and the specific areas you need to improve in. Present your reflection to
me.
Consider:
• your ability to read and understand your text books and teacher notes
• your ability to clearly and accurately communicate your ideas in writing
• your ability to listen to an understand spoken texts in film and video, plus your teachers'
classroom talk
• your ability to communicate your ideas clearly and accurately in oral presentations and to
participate in a formal conversation
Organization
In both English B and Language A there are oral internal assessments worth up to a third of course
marks. It is important you develop your oral presentation skills. You need to develop a good range
of vocabulary, accurate grammar and effective intonation. You also need to be able to organize your
presentations so the listener can easily understand you. All presentations have:
• an introduction
• development sections
• a conclusion
Key Skills Include
• mapping your presentations so the listener knows what you are going to talk about and in
what order
• using a topic sentence in your introduction to clearly state your main idea/opinion
• using key transition words or phrases to introduce a new idea
• signaling your conclusion
